When I turned 9, I was a member of Faisal Youth Center football team. I was the youngest among my colleagues, but I never felt the age difference. At that time I loved football passionately. My wildest Dream was to play for Suez Club I felt it very difficult to the extent that it never came to my mind that I want to play for Ahly it was a far away Dream. I stayed in Faisal Youth center till I reached 11. One day my friend Youssef took my to what I thought was the first step, unfortunately it wasn't. We went to the tests of Suez Club. I was very excited and played like I never did before but………….They just came and asked us to come latter may be in two months time or something (polite way of saying sorry) I felt down, disappointed, sad I really don't know .All What I remember that I felt my dream fading .I lost hope in every thing, even football itself, I played everything else volleyball, basketball, ……but I never enjoyed anything more than football. As you might know, my dream did not die that time, but it was postponed .It is very strange, it always happens to me, when I feel that I'm close to something it happens thank god but later ….it happened when I dreamt of joining Suez Club and happened again when I Joined El Ahly as you will know latter. Anyway, 2 months latter, Youssef came to me again .it seems he was the secret of my success although I never heard from him again since this day. This Time it was el Nouba Sporting Club, he convinced me to go despite the fear I had and the previous bad experience…But this time it was different …really different, since my first days their they treated me differently, I was the spoiled child of the team, they got me every thing I wanted and even never forgot my birthday…. I will never forget these days. Till date one of my usual routines when I go home is to visit El Nouba Sporting Club I feel they are my family. I stayed there for 3 years till the Age of 15, the time of the first delayed dream to come true. I started to be known in my team, this made Suez Club ask for my contract and finally I joined Suez youth team. My Years in Suez: When I Joined Suez Club I was very happy, it's the wish of every Teenager in Suez. But for me it was much more, it was a step closer to the real dream, to Al-Ahly. I joined the less than 17 years team and within a year time I made it to the first team. The funny thing here is that I was almost the last one in the under 17 to make it to the first team. But for me it was normal I never worried as I trust my capabilities. Patience is my secret word. After joining the first team, I left a quick impact and became one of the team starting line up in less than a year. I will always remember my first game in the league, ironically it was against AL Ahly in Cairo stadium and we lost 2:0. Another funny fact in my life is that my first Cup game was against Zamalek and again we lost in penalty kicks (I scored mine) as if I'm destined to score in Zamalek net. I will also never forget my first official goal and it was against Mansoura in an away match that we won 2:1 with that Goal. In Suez I spent 3 years under the supervision of Captain Ahmed Refaat then Captain Mohsen Khalifa and finally Captain Ahmed Refaat again. During my stay with Suez I started to attract the attention of the Top teams, Al-Ahly, Zamalek and Ismaily. I felt I'm closer to Ahly than ever but once again the dream was delayed .At that time it was almost impossible to play in Ahly which had all these Strikers (Hossam Hassan and Felix at their Top form). So I was left between Ismaily and Zamalek. I chose Ismaily and since the day I joined I was sure of one thing I'm here for just a while, I was sure that I would be in Ahly soon. My years at Ismaily: This phase of my life could be called the surge. In a very short time I made an impact. I will never forget the Day when Captain Mimi Darwish Came to Suez and Took me directly to Ismailya .I met Mr. Marcus, the coach who told me that he believes so much in my capabilities but he also told me that I have lots to do to earn a position in the squad. When I arrived there I was ranked 6 or 7 among Ismaily strikers. But faster than I even expected I became number one. I remember that we had a very busy pre season schedule of around 7 games, after 4 of them I became the main offensive element of the team. It was against Aswan, we won 7:0 and I scored 4. I will always remember my first game with Ismaily, against Qanah. This Game witnessed my first ever Ismaily Goal. I had a very nice start with Ismaily to the degree that I made it to the National team. Then after almost 3 years of continuous success, the dream started to come true (and believe me I always knew it will). And for this there is a long story that you know most of it. My years with Al Ahly: Finally, the dream came true and it is the beloved red jersey! After years of hard working to reach it, it finally came true. After long hassles with my former club about the move, I finally made it. The move wasn't a smooth one as I wished it could be, after the expiring of my contract with Ismaily, I moved to Ahly, however it wasn't an easy step for Ismailya. The club and fans of Ismaily didn't let it go easily may be due to the long-rooted sensitive issues between the two clubs, or may be they thought it was a steal move form Ahly, even though it was my pure wish, and waiting till my contract with Ismaily ends then moving to Ahly was the last resort. The first few days in Ahly was like a dream for me, being inside the great club, the great fans cheering me everywhere, it was just simply a very nice dream coming true. This warm welcome form the club, players and fans as much as it helped me a lot in the beginning, it added too much pressure on me to prove that I am worth all that trust. Due to my bad luck, I was injured at that period, so my first depute with Ahly was delayed because of that injury. My first participation with Ahly in the league was against Koroum, for my first few matches the communications and adjustment to the teammates wasn't on the desired level, and that got better with time and with the help of my teammates. And came my first match against the rivalry Zamalek, and came with it my first goal as I scored the equalizer goal in that match. With that goal, I got my bridges with the fans back and establishing rapport with them. The first season with Ahly was somehow successful for me, even though we didn't win the league but we got the cup title. The second year was my best in my whole career till now. Under coach Manuel Jose, starting with a moral-lifting win over mighty Real Madrid, and putting a good show in that match missing a couple of chances and hitting the post once. After that the African season resumed and we finally won the long awaited title, the champions league of Africa. A point in my career I will always have to stop at is the final of 2001 champions league. It was a remarkable day in my career, scoring a hat trick in the final against Sundowns of South Africa in front of 100,000 fans was a key point in my life, specially I was the first player in Africa to score three goals in a final, a record to be proud of, and more proud to do with Ahly. Three months later, it was another big game for me, the super cup against Kaiser Chiefs, another South African team, and another big win, and with a very remarkable incidence in that match when our goalkeeper Essam EL-Hadary scored a goal for us, and another day to celebrate. In That season, a match that I 'll never forget, and fans of Ahly will never forget was the famous match against rivalry Zamalek. 16th May 2002, nine days after the death of the great Maestro of Ahly, Saleh Selim, God bless him. The match was very emotional for everyone in the club, players, fans, coaches, and of course Captain Tarek Selim. This added another reason to make it a very crucial match for us; we had nothing else in our minds except to win. An early goal by Reda Shehata then followed by another on by Ibrahim Said wasn't enough for us. Getting a nice pass from Ahmed Belal in the first half I shot it straight in the net scoring the third goal for us and my first of the game and it was a goal to celebrate for us all. The second half we started cautiously, and by a very nice pass from Reda, I scored my second goal, passing from Zamalek's defender, and it was a chant for fans till now. Then I scored2 more goals to be the first player ever in history of Ahly-Zamalek Derby to score 4 goals in one match, another record to be proud of. Even though we didn't win the league that year too, but it was one of my greatest years in Ahly, a year that gave me a position in the hearts of loyal Ahly fans, and apposition that is an honor for myself. Then comes the current year in Ahly, 2002-2003 starting with a win over Roma in Cairo, and getting an injury was not the start I really wanted for the season, then afterwards, going on a humpy road with injury that I am still suffering from its effects till now, hoping it will over soon, and I will be back to play with my beloved Ahly team and add more victories to the Great Ahly, and yet the wheel goes on….. |
